In a canon, both parts sing the same melody, but one part begins later than the first.

Your teacher will give you your starting pitch.

You will begin the song, and continue singing until the end.

Your teacher will sing the same tune but will begin two measures later.

This will show if you can keep your own part going while someone else sings a different part. Be sure to sing the "A" on in measure 6 on "Brother John". In the key of F, this is "mi". Many people mistakenly sing the "F" or "do" instead of moving up a skip.

In the following example, the first time through you will hear the melody with an ostinato. The second time, you will hear the piece played as a canon.

There will be no piano accompaniment at your audition.
